What a bakery needs to know about www redirects
11 Jul 2024
How a bakery deals with www redirects — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: a mailbox that still points at the old host. This is where www redirects breaks for a bakery.
The hosting bill for a bakery is twelve dollars a month. Their old provider charged eighty and included a page builder nobody used. www redirects was broken on both plans.
When a bakery moved hosts, the outage was not the new box — it was a mailbox that still points at the old host. We keep TTL short the week of a move, then raise it once everything is stable.
WordPress can handle www redirects with a plugin. But the plugin adds JavaScript, a dashboard, and a support ticket when it conflicts with the next update. We wrote four lines of config instead.
The best www redirects setup is the one nobody has to think about. For a bakery, that means auto-renew, auto-redirect, and a monitoring ping every four hours.
Launch day for a bakery is usually light. Week three is when leftover tags, fonts, and staging URLs show up. a mailbox that still points at the old host is the usual passenger.
