A practical look at www redirects for a hardware store
30 Aug 2026
How a hardware store deals with www redirects — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: nameservers that still list a freelancer. This is where www redirects breaks for a hardware store.
a hardware store did not need a portal. They needed a page that said who they are, what they do, and a phone number that somebody picks up before the fifth ring.
The hosting bill for a hardware store is twelve dollars a month. Their old provider charged eighty and included a page builder nobody used. www redirects was broken on both plans.
We document www redirects in a shared spreadsheet. It is not glamorous, but a hardware store can open it on their phone at midnight if something breaks.
When we onboard a hardware store, the first thing we check is www redirects. It tells us more about the previous provider than any sales call.
A phishing page copying a hardware store appeared last year. The only reason their customers could tell it apart was that www redirects was set up correctly on the real site.
We check www redirects for a hardware store once a quarter. It takes five minutes and has caught two problems in the past year. Both would have caused downtime within a week.
