404 pages: a field note from a yoga studio
15 Mar 2025
How a yoga studio deals with 404 pages — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: a registrar login nobody wrote down. This breaks 404 pages for a yoga studio.
For a yoga studio, we wrote a three-line script that checks 404 pages every morning and emails the owner if anything changes. Total cost: zero.
Complexity is the enemy of uptime. a yoga studio had three layers of proxy in front of a site that gets two hundred visits a day. We replaced it with a static page and correct 404 pages.
The hosting bill for a yoga studio is twelve dollars a month. Their old provider charged eighty and included a page builder nobody used. 404 pages was broken on both plans.
We checked the WHOIS for a yoga studio and found the domain was registered under a former employee. Transferring it took more time than fixing 404 pages.
a yoga studio asked us to look at 404 pages after a customer screenshot showed a browser warning. The fix took eleven minutes; finding the cause took two hours.
We do not start with a platform when handling 404 pages. We write down who types what, who gets the mail, and what must not get lost. That list is always shorter than a vendor pitch deck.
