How a driving school should handle analytics tags
29 Jan 2025
How a driving school deals with analytics tags — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: a lastmod stamp that never changes. analytics tags slows the page for a driving school.
The job started when a driving school realised their analytics tags had been wrong for months. Nobody noticed because the site still loaded.
A friend of the owner at a driving school had set up analytics tags years ago. When we audited, the config still pointed at a server they stopped paying for in 2024.
We quoted a driving school half what the other firm did because we did not propose features they did not ask for. The scope was analytics tags, not a rebrand.
We document analytics tags in a shared spreadsheet. It is not glamorous, but a driving school can open it on their phone at midnight if something breaks.
Search consoles like honest sitemaps. Every loc should be a document. Reserving ten thousand empty shells and hoping Google does not notice is not a strategy for analytics tags.
Half the meeting with a driving school was explaining what analytics tags is. The other half was agreeing that a lastmod stamp that never changes should have been fixed a year ago.
