Managing CAA records at a marina

1 Sep 2026

How a marina deals with CAA records — and what usually goes wrong.

Browser visits marina.com Registrar domain owner Nameserver DNS records Host serves site CAA records nameservers that…

The problem: nameservers that still list a freelancer. This is where CAA records breaks for a marina.

Maintenance is not glamorous, but it is the reason a marina has not had downtime since we took over CAA records. The invoice is small and the peace of mind is large.

a marina asked us to look at CAA records after a customer screenshot showed a browser warning. The fix took eleven minutes; finding the cause took two hours.

We once forgot to renew CAA records for a weekend project and it took down a page that a marina linked to from a print flyer. We now set auto-renew on everything.

Complexity is the enemy of uptime. a marina had three layers of proxy in front of a site that gets two hundred visits a day. We replaced it with a static page and correct CAA records.

Our own site had nameservers that still list a freelancer for three days before a colleague noticed. We added it to the pre-launch checklist the same afternoon.

Search consoles like honest sitemaps. Every loc should be a document. Reserving ten thousand empty shells and hoping Google does not notice is not a strategy for CAA records.
