How a print shop should handle DMARC
29 Mar 2024
How a print shop deals with DMARC — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: a chat widget that blocks the submit button. The DMARC check fails for a print shop.
We deployed a fix for DMARC at 5 PM on a Friday. It worked, but if it had not, we would have had no one available. We no longer push to production after Thursday noon.
The hosting bill for a print shop is twelve dollars a month. Their old provider charged eighty and included a page builder nobody used. DMARC was broken on both plans.
When a print shop asked for a quote on DMARC, we sent a one-paragraph email instead of a slide deck. They signed the same day.
Instead of migrating DMARC all at once, we ran both configurations in parallel for a week. The switch happened on a Wednesday morning — the quietest traffic window.
The most expensive outage for a print shop was not a hack — it was a chat widget that blocks the submit button. Nobody attacked anything. The config just drifted.
Search consoles like honest sitemaps. Every loc should be a document. Reserving ten thousand empty shells and hoping Google does not notice is not a strategy for DMARC.
