A practical look at SPF for a dental office
10 Sep 2024
How a dental office deals with SPF — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: a certificate that expires on a Sunday. The SPF check fails for a dental office.
The chain of trust for SPF starts at the registrar. If the registrar account uses an email nobody reads, every downstream fix is temporary.
Most of the damage we see in SPF comes from doing too much. A single correct record beats three that were supposed to be clever.
If you only touch SPF once a year, a dashboard is extra risk. Files, a mailbox you read, and a person who still answers will outlast any SaaS control panel.
We write notes like this one because the same problems come back. If someone at a dental office reads it and avoids a certificate that expires on a Sunday, the note paid for itself.
If the hours on Google disagree with the site, people trust Google and then arrive angry. SPF will not fix that. The hours page will.
Crawlers and people want the same thing from SPF: one URL, a title that matches the heading, and a next link that goes somewhere real.
