A practical look at DKIM for a plant nursery
13 Jul 2026
How a plant nursery deals with DKIM — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: a 2 MB photo in a 320-pixel slot. The DKIM check fails for a plant nursery.
After fixing DKIM, we added a monitoring alert. If the record changes or the certificate approaches expiry, both we and a plant nursery get an email. No surprises.
Half the meeting with a plant nursery was explaining what DKIM is. The other half was agreeing that a 2 MB photo in a 320-pixel slot should have been fixed a year ago.
We write notes like this one because the same problems come back. If someone at a plant nursery reads it and avoids a 2 MB photo in a 320-pixel slot, the note paid for itself.
When a plant nursery asked for a quote on DKIM, we sent a one-paragraph email instead of a slide deck. They signed the same day.
Most providers let you export DKIM as a zone file. We keep one in version control for every client. If the hosting vanishes, the zone file rebuilds the domain in minutes.
