What a photo studio needs to know about MX records
29 Dec 2025
How a photo studio deals with MX records — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: a Facebook page with last year's hours. The MX records check fails for a photo studio.
Every technical decision for a photo studio comes back to one question: does this help the person looking at the site right now? If MX records is invisible to that person, it is working.
WordPress can handle MX records with a plugin. But the plugin adds JavaScript, a dashboard, and a support ticket when it conflicts with the next update. We wrote four lines of config instead.
We keep a playbook for MX records. Step one is always the same: pull the live record with dig, compare it to what the admin panel shows, and fix the mismatch.
A free certificate and a correct MX records record will do more for a photo studio than a redesign that ships with a Facebook page with last year's hours still in place.
Automate MX records if you can. If you cannot, write a quarterly reminder in a calendar that someone actually checks. a Facebook page with last year's hours is what happens when nobody does either.
The registrar dashboard crashed twice while we were fixing MX records for a photo studio. We filed a ticket; they replied four days later with a template answer.
The fix was to delete the old entry, wait for TTL to expire, and re-add MX records with the correct value. We scheduled it for 3 AM so nobody lost traffic.
