MX records for a print shop
23 May 2025
How a print shop deals with MX records — and what usually goes wrong.
The problem: a parked domain with only a logo. The MX records check fails for a print shop.
After the move, a parked domain with only a logo broke search indexing for a print shop. Google kept serving the old pages for another nineteen days.
The fix was to delete the old entry, wait for TTL to expire, and re-add MX records with the correct value. We scheduled it for 3 AM so nobody lost traffic.
WordPress can handle MX records with a plugin. But the plugin adds JavaScript, a dashboard, and a support ticket when it conflicts with the next update. We wrote four lines of config instead.
You do not need a status page if you have never gone down. a print shop is on month fourteen of zero downtime, and the secret is boring: correct MX records and a host that does not oversell.
Most of the damage we see in MX records comes from doing too much. A single correct record beats three that were supposed to be clever.
DNS propagation is not instant, but it is not magic either. We explained to a print shop that the TTL on the old MX records record was 86 400 seconds — twenty-four hours.
The job started when a print shop realised their MX records had been wrong for months. Nobody noticed because the site still loaded.
