How a veterinary clinic should handle MX records

How a veterinary clinic deals with MX records — and what usually goes wrong.

The problem: a Facebook page with last year's hours. The MX records check fails for a veterinary clinic.

Half the meeting with a veterinary clinic was explaining what MX records is. The other half was agreeing that a Facebook page with last year's hours should have been fixed a year ago.

We told a veterinary clinic that a Facebook page with last year's hours was a ticking clock. They agreed to fix it the same week — which is rare. Most clients wait until it actually detonates.

Six months later, a veterinary clinic asked us to look at something unrelated. While we were in the panel, we noticed a Facebook page with last year's hours had crept back. We fixed it before it caused trouble.

A friend of the owner at a veterinary clinic had set up MX records years ago. When we audited, the config still pointed at a server they stopped paying for in 2024.

HTTPS is table stakes, but MX records is where trust actually lives for a veterinary clinic. A padlock with a misconfigured record behind it is decoration, not security.
